Bandung - PSTA, Wednesday (10/23/2019), PSTA-LAPAN received a visit from Jakarta State University (UNJ). On this occasion, around 137 students and their accompanying lecturers from the Physics and Physics Education major, Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences gathered in the Matahari Room, Building I 3rd floor, Space Science Center - LAPAN to learn about Science, Technology and Atmospheric Modelling.

The program began with the speech from the UNJ assistant lecturer by delivering the purpose of the visit, hoping that the visit to PSTA could add new knowledge related to LAPAN and atmospheric science, then proceed with remarks by the Head of PSTA Administration, Sudirman, who briefly explained PSTA in Bandung and the event which will be held on that day.

In the first session, students were invited to get to know about LAPAN's institutional exposure further. In this session, Atep Radiana who is a staff of the PSTA Dissemination Division as the resource person provided material related to the LAPAN profile. In one of the explanations it was said that LAPAN has 3 technical deputies consisting of the Deputy for Space and Atmospheric Sciences, the Deputy for Aviation and Space Technology, and the Deputy for Remote Sensing. In addition, there are three work units directly under the Head of LAPAN namely the Center for Aviation and Space Policy Studies (PKKPA), the Center for Aviation and Space Standardization and Innovation (Pusispan), and the Center for Aviation and Space Information and Communication Technology. In addition to the deputy, there is a Principal Secretary who assists the Head of LAPAN for administrative matters.

He also explained further about the Center for Atmospheric Science and Technology (PSTA) which is under the Deputy for Space and Atmospheric Sciences. Where in the PSTA itself there are 5 research focuses consisting of the Maritime Atmosphere, Climate Change, Atmospheric Environment, Hydrometeorological Potential Disaster, and Atmospheric Technology. Each focus of the study has 1 decision support system (DSS) in the form of SEMAR, SRIRAMA, SRIKANDI, SADEWA, and SANTANU.

The next session was presented by Prof. Dr. Eddy Hermawan with material about Hagibis Typhoon and weather conditions in Indonesia. Prof. Eddy explained about Hagibis, a typhoon which recently attacked Japan. The details are explained in both spatial and temporal analysis when typhoons and post-Hagibis strike. In his presentation Prof. Eddy also compared the typhoon Hagibis disaster in Japan with the Cempaka tropical cyclone disaster in Yogyakarta in 2017. A lot of visual material is displayed about the movement of the wind during the cyclonic cyclone, where two eye storms are visible close together in the Indian Ocean region, causing catastrophic disasters in Yogyakarta at that time.

Prof. Eddy also explained when the rainy or dry season occurs and how sea surface temperature affects the Indian Ocean Dipole (IOD). Where IOD is very influential in the formation of the season in Indonesia. Based on the results of his research he concluded that the rainy season will come around January 2020.

After the presentation session was completed, a question and answer session was then held between the participants of the visit and the speaker. But before the question and answer session was held, Joko Trianas as one of the Information Management and Documentation Officers (PPID) of PSTA LAPAN conducted a community satisfaction survey (SKM) on the visiting participants. For the first time PSTA conducted an online survey, participants were asked to open the link ( that was provided and fill out the existing survey.

The series of visits ended with a group photo between the guest speaker and the participants of the visit. At the end of the event Mr. Joko Trianas also expressed his gratitude for the appreciation of the participants of the visit regarding the community satisfaction survey that had been conducted, from the results of the calculation of the visit participants showed Very good satisfaction with a value of 88.45.
